False Outer Point parking lot, North Douglas October 6th 1990 (Saturday) 10:00AM | Distance: a mile, a 5 kilometer and a 10 kilometer, run as three races of one event Location: start and finish at the False Outer Point parking lot, North Douglas Course: the 10 kilometer heads south on North Douglas Highway to the intersection with Fish Creek Road and returns to the finish at the starting point. The 5K and the mile run shorter loops. The Alaska Coastal Homes Fun Run-Walk. All three races are in the Empire Cup Runners Series. Fish Creek Road, Douglas, to the Eaglecrest day lodge September 3rd 1990 (Monday) 9:00AM | Distance: 5 miles, with a separate 1.5-mile run for youngsters Location: Fish Creek Road, the road to Eaglecrest, starting one quarter of a mile from its intersection with Douglas Highway; finish at the day lodge Course: all uphill on road. The youth run starts at the base of the last hill before the day lodge. Start Time: 9:00 AM for both races. Register between 8:00 and 8:45 at the quarter-mile starting point; runners in the youth run must be driven to their starting line. Mendenhall Spur Road, Juneau August 11th 1990 (Saturday) 9:00AM | Distance: a quarter marathon of 6.55 miles and a half marathon of 13.1 miles Location: Mendenhall Spur Road, Juneau The Capital City Run, over the same two distances the CBJ Juneau Marathon ran alongside its full marathon through the 1980s. Franklin Street, downtown Juneau to the cross on Mount Roberts July 28th 1990 (Saturday) 9:00AM | Distance: 3.1 miles, climbing 2,000 feet above sea level. There is no set course between the start and the finish. Location: start in front of the Foggy Mountain Shop on Franklin Street, downtown Juneau; finish at the cross above the tree line on Mount Roberts Course: runners enter the trail at the top of Sixth Street on Starr Hill and may choose their own route from Franklin Street to that point, provided it avoids private property. Runners are asked to stay off the worn short cuts where the established trail switches back. Start Time: 9:00 AM. Registration in the shop from 8:30 AM, closing at 8:55 sharp. Registration Fee: 9 dollars, including a T-shirt for the first 50 to register Sponsored by the Foggy Mountain Shop. Runners under 18 must pre-register and have an adult sign for them. Alaska State Capitol, Fourth Street, Juneau to the base of Hospital Drive July 14th 1990 (Saturday) 10:00AM | Location: start at the Alaska State Capitol, Fourth Street; finish at the base of Hospital Drive Course: out Calhoun Avenue past the downtown sights, a climb through the Highlands, then a flatter run along Glacier Avenue to the finish The Governor's Cup Fun Run, a 3.09-mile race, walk, jog or rollerblade, with a mass start at the Capitol. Ribbons to the first three in each division, plus race-walking and rollerblade. A race in the Empire Cup Runners Series. University of Alaska Southeast, Auke Lake campus May 12th 1990 (Saturday) 9:00AM | Distance: 10 miles, with a 2-mile race over part of the same ground Location: start at the corner of Back Loop Road and the University of Alaska Southeast access road behind the library; finish mid-campus, across from the Mourant Building Course: the ten-mile follows Glacier Highway to the Brotherhood Bridge, picks up the bike trail past the post office to James Boulevard, then Mendenhall Loop Road and Back Loop Road to the start line. The two-mile turns the opposite way at Glacier Highway and loops back toward the finish past DeHart's Store. Start Time: 9:00 AM, registration 8:00 to 8:45 in front of the Mourant Building Mostly flat and all on pavement, with some hills in the latter stages. Participants must walk a quarter-mile from the registration tables to the start. Both races are in the Empire Cup Runners Series. Sponsored by Coors Beer.
