| Magnificent Mendenhall Mudpuddle Meet | University of Alaska campus, Auke Lake | Distance: 10 miles Location: the University of Alaska campus at Auke Lake, south around the Mendenhall Loop Road Start Time: 8:00 AM The second Magnificent Mendenhall Mudpuddle Meet, co-sponsored by the University of Alaska and the Juneau Parks and Recreation Department as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Entrants collected sponsors pledging per mile completed, with no minimum, and a runner could sponsor themselves. Free t-shirts went to the first 60 finishers, refreshments were laid on at the five-mile checkpoint, and a Parks and Recreation van patrolled the course to offer a ride to anyone who tired early.
